WWE reportedly believes AEW will end up like WCW/TNA

WWE is arguably one of the largest sports entertainment company in the world. Vince/WWE dealt with many competition over the years whether it was WCW, TNA or some Indie promotions. At the end Vince was able establish WWE as the top sports entertainment company.

WWE’s top competitor at this moment is AEW, which was founded by Elites, Cody, Jericho and more. It gave a tough competition for WWE but lately ratings are not as good as previous years. WWE’s NXT which airs on Tuesday was viewed by 857,000 fans, but AEW’s flagship show AEW Dynamite which airs on Wednesday was viewed by 800,000 fans. Usually AEW’s numbers would be greater than NXT.

Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that WWE thinks AEW will end up WCW/TNA. He also notes WWE could hire their younger talent where as AEW could hire WWE’s older talents.

One person in WWE noted that they believe the wrestling war will turn into WCW or TNA or Bellator as the competition in the sense there will be signings of older talent from WWE with names while WWE will take AEW’s younger talent (Cargill being the first example) and this is history repeating itself. The claim is that a pipeline has developed and some of the younger AEW stars are already talking about leaving when their deals are up.

“Even in AEW there are people saying the same thing, that it’s known that people are looking to leave and the hope is that the number is few because the perception of AEW as the AAA league in wrestling (a baseball reference for the top feeder league, not a wrestling reference) would not be good for AEW. There will likely be movement in both directions as there has been, but WWE is interested in the key younger talent.”
